HALO

Thandii’s Halo is their most introspective release yet. It leans into shadowy trip-hop, ambient soul, and lo-fi R&B to tell a story about emotional survival, navigating love, grief, disconnection, and eventually, clarity. It’s a patient, self-contained world where each track takes its time to unfold adding layers to a dark, atmospheric story of emotional depth and transformation.

Past opens the record reflecting on the weight of memories and the challenge of moving forward, the fat bass-line and Berry’s vocal recalls Dummy-era Portishead. It’s restrained and mournful, questioning where closure ends and self-preservation begins.

Glow offers light. It’s the softest track here, both thematically and sonically, built around simple chord progressions and shimmering top lines. It’s about being present, connection, presence, and the warmth that comes from a shared moment and letting joy in when it finally shows up. Earth Angel’s, smooth rhythm and gentle melodies convey a quiet strength, a deep sense of devotion and tenderness.

Moon drifts into more ambient territory, it feels soft, atmospheric and a haunting, with ghostly harmonies and almost no percussion. Berry’s voice here is delicate, almost fragile. Bang Bang introduces a more rhythmic, percussive element, with DJ Shadow-style forceful beats and a slightly darker, more intense energy, building a sense of urgency that reflects the internal struggle of wanting and not knowing how to handle it.

The Arc, feels intricate, the sparse production and soft vocals create a sense of stillness creeping along with minimal pulse. Silence, is hauntingly cinematic, with Berry’s emotive delivery of lines like “You’re losing me, I can hardly speak… in the silence” evoking deep isolation and unspoken pain.

Sentimental, brings a warm, nostalgic energy with dreamy keys and synths and a slow, reflective groove. Future brings the album to an uplifting close, the lyrics “I can’t change the past, you can’t control the time… let’s just fall in love”, speak to growth, change, a fresh start and new love.
