Yukimi Nagano (born January 31, 1982) is a Swedish singer, songwriter, and musician, best known as the lead vocalist of the electronic band Little Dragon. Her soulful, expressive voice and eclectic influences have shaped the band’s signature sound, blending electronic, R&B, synth-pop, and experimental elements. Born in Gothenburg, Sweden, to a Japanese father and a Swedish-American mother, Nagano developed a love for music early on. In 1996, she formed Little Dragon with high school friends Erik Bodin, Fredrik Wallin, and Håkan Wirenstrand. The band released their self-titled debut album in 2007, introducing their unique fusion of organic instrumentation and electronic textures. Their follow-up, Machine Dreams (2009), saw them lean further into synth-driven production, with tracks like Blinking Pigs gaining wider attention. Their third album, Ritual Union (2011), helped establish them internationally, praised for its mix of indie electronic, synth-pop, and R&B influences. Nabuma Rubberband (2014) earned them a Grammy nomination for Best Dance/Electronic Album, followed by Season High (2017), which explored futuristic funk and electronic soul. More recent albums, New Me, Same Us (2020) and Slugs of Love (2023), continued their evolution, mixing deep grooves with melodic experimentation. In addition to their own work, Little Dragon has collaborated with a range of artists, including Gorillaz (Empire Ants, To Binge), SBTRKT (Wildfire), KAYTRANADA, BADBADNOTGOOD, and Flying Lotus. In 2024, Nagano announced her debut solo album, For You, marking a new phase in her artistic journey. While she remains at the core of Little Dragon, her solo work offers a more personal perspective, exploring themes of love and self-discovery with the same warmth and innovation that have defined her career.
