Born and raised in Torrance, California, she began her musical journey with classical piano training before venturing into music production using tools like the Roland SP-404 and Fruity Loops. Her early influences include DJ Krush, J Dilla, RZA, Dr. Dre, and DJ Shadow.

TOKiMONSTA gained prominence as the first female artist signed to Flying Lotus's Brainfeeder label, releasing her debut album, "Midnight Menu," in 2010. She continued to evolve her sound with subsequent albums such as "Half Shadows" (2013), "Desiderium" (2014), "Lune Rouge" (2017), and "Oasis Nocturno" (2020). Her collaborations span a diverse range of artists, including Anderson .Paak, Gavin Turek, EarthGang, and MNDR.

In 2015, she faced a significant health challenge due to Moyamoya disease, undergoing two brain surgeries that temporarily affected her ability to comprehend music.
