Tahj Malik Chandler, known professionally as Saba, is an American rapper, songwriter, and record producer from Chicago, Illinois. He is a founding member of the Pivot Gang collective and has collaborated with artists such as Chance the Rapper, Noname, J. Cole, and No ID. Known for his intricate lyricism and introspective storytelling, Saba has built a reputation as one of hip-hop’s most compelling voices. Saba first gained recognition with his 2012 debut mixtape, GETCOMFORTable, showcasing his technical skill and thoughtful lyricism. He followed it up with ComfortZone (2014), which featured a more refined sound and deeper exploration of his Chicago upbringing. In 2016, Saba released Bucket List Project, a breakthrough project that blended jazz-influenced beats with personal reflections on ambition, family, and loss. This set the stage for his critically acclaimed 2018 album CARE FOR ME, a deeply personal work largely inspired by the tragic passing of his cousin and Pivot Gang member, John Walt. The album was widely praised for its emotional depth and minimalist production. His next album, Few Good Things (2022), expanded his artistic range, incorporating elements of soul and R&B while exploring themes of success, survival, and self-reflection. The album featured collaborations with G Herbo, Black Thought, Smino, and 6LACK, further cementing his versatility. In 2025, Saba released From The Private Collection of Saba and No ID, a collaborative album with legendary producer No ID. The project marked a significant artistic moment, pairing Saba’s sharp lyricism and introspective themes with No ID’s signature soulful, sample-driven production. The album has been met with widespread acclaim and was recently awarded New Musik Radar's "Most Loved" award, recognizing its impact and excellence. With this release, Saba continues to push the boundaries of storytelling and sound while staying true to his Chicago roots.
