Pink Butter is a Swedish quartet blending the freedom of jazz with the rhythmic flow of hip-hop and soul. Formed by guitarist Oskar Bettinsoli, keyboardist Björn Lehnert, bassist Malte Bergman, and drummer John Bjurström,their music is a testament to the idea that the power of spontaneous, live creation is timeless, whether in a jazz jam session or a contemporary hip-hop track. Signed to London-based label DeepMatter Records, Pink Butter has quickly established a name for themselves with a warm, contemporary analog-forward sound that pays homage to classic soul and golden-era hip-hop. It’s about capturing the raw energy of the moment, just like the jazz records they love, but infused with the modern collaboration and vibe of today’s hip-hop and soul. It’s a balance between the timelessness of improvisation and the innovation of contemporary music. The band made their debut with the single “Can We Go Back,” a soulful, jazzy hip-hop track featuring none other than T3 of the legendary group Slum Village. Released in April 2025, the track combines expressive instrumentation with nostalgic, Dilla-influenced production, and marked the beginning of a steady rollout of singles leading up to their debut EP. This was followed by the release of “Alright,” a laid-back, groove-heavy track featuring vocalist Joanné Nugas, and then the “U,” a neo-soul track which dropped in early July 2025 featuring Jermaine Holmes and Venus Anon. These singles all appear on the band’s upcoming debut EP Can We Go Back, which is set for release on August 1, 2025 via DeepMatter. The six-track EP will be available digitally and as a limited 12” vinyl, with a special smoked pink edition. Alongside the three singles already released, the EP will include three additional tracks: “Made For Me,” “Voice Memo,” and “Lost My Mind.” Across the project, Pink Butter demonstrates a clear vision to make music that feels alive in the moment, rooted in deep musicality and shaped by a reverence for collaboration. With a lineup of respected vocal contributors and a palette that spans intimate soul to hip-hop-driven jazz, the band offers a compelling new entry into the world of contemporary collectives.
