papa mbye, born Papa Neneh Mbye, is a Senegambian artist based in Minneapolis whose music moves restlessly between experimental pop, rap, R&B, electronic production, soul, and fragmented indie textures. Raised in North Minneapolis after emigrating to the United States as a child, Mbye first emerged as a visual artist, illustrator, painter, and caricature artist before turning to music during the early years of the pandemic, carrying that same instinct for colour, distortion, and self-portraiture into sound. His early singles, including “IDONTSENDSEX” with FruitPunchLoverBoy, “NOFOODINMYTUMMY,” and “ONLY RIGHT,” introduced a raw, elastic voice full of hooks, anxious energy, and off-centre charm, before his 2021 debut EP MANG FI framed him as an artist learning a new language in public without sanding away the weirdness.

Since then, Mbye has continued to widen his world with releases such as “PASSENGER,” “PIXEL,” “CPU,” “ULTRAVIOLET,” “CANNONBALL,” and “COMMON SENSE,” songs that flicker between vulnerability and momentum, often feeling like pop music pulled apart and rebuilt from memory.
