lavender is a London-based experimental indie folk-pop duo consisting of Adam Jackson and Oskar Rice. The pair began releasing music in 2020 and are known for their evolving sound, which blends elements of lo-fi indie, alternative R&B, hip-hop production, and experimental folk. Their debut single, “Peppermint,” was released on 10 July 2020 , a lo-fi hip-hop track that samples “Baby” by Donnie and Joe Emerson. The track featured on their first EP, all will be well, a seven-track collection that introduced lavender’s early sound: a lo-fi mix of indie, R&B, hip-hop-influenced beats, and mellow vocal layering. Following "all will be well", lavender released two standalone singles, “whenineeditmost” and “Evelyn/courtside,” on 12 October 2023. These tracks signalled a shift in the duo’s musical direction, incorporating more acoustic textures, tape-warped arrangements, and a growing interest in experimental folk. The sonic transition culminated in the release of “lowlight:slowlight” on 29 January 2024, the first single from their debut full-length album. lavender’s debut album, "We're Having a Barn Dance", was released in May 2025. It's subtle production, unorthodox structure, and emotionally resonant tone reflects a maturation of the band’s style, fusing ambient field recordings, layered instrumentation, and abstract lyricism earning a "Most Loved Award" from New Musik Radar. The duo cite a wide range of influences including American Football, Burial, Steve Reich, and J Dilla, all of which are reflected in their work through intricate rhythms, atmospheric layering, and a mix of acoustic and electronic elements. Their music has drawn comparisons to Bon Iver, particularly in its use of vocal manipulation, lo-fi recording techniques, and emotionally driven experimentation.
