Niia Bertino, professionally known as Niia, is a classically trained composer, pianist, and vocalist from Needham, Massachusetts, now based in Los Angeles. Grounded in jazz, her music combines refined elegance with an edgy sensibility, delivering a timeless vocal presence and incisive, deeply felt songwriting. Across five studio albums, she has continually evolved her sound, each release marking a distinct artistic transformation. Her 2017 debut, I, produced by Robin Hannibal of Rhye, introduced a blend of trip-hop and sophisti-pop, featuring lush arrangements and introspective lyricism. II: La Bella Vita (2020) shifted toward neo-soul and disco, with Niia co-producing and drawing inspiration from Italian cinema for a vibrant, rhythmically driven sound. The 2021 EP If I Should Die delved deeper into R&B, showcasing Niia’s executive production and visual direction, emphasizing her multifaceted creative vision. OFFAIR: Mouthful of Salt (2022) moved into art-pop, classical arrangements, and contemporary jazz, reflecting a personal and immersive sonic landscape, while 2023’s Bobby Deerfield explored art-pop, R&B, soul, and cinematic textures inspired by the 1977 film. Her most recent album, V (2025), leans further into jazz while retaining her soulful R&B sensibilities, blending original compositions with reimagined standards like “Angel Eyes,” reaffirming her status as an artist committed to continual growth, experimentation, and musical sophistication.
